Annual Independent City Event a Success

Earlier this month, AVUHSD hosted its annual Independent City event where foster youth are able to prepare for adulthood and emancipation. The students are placed in a simulated city environment where they adopt a persona and conduct personal business at locations such as a bank, county office or DMV. They also are asked to make purchases such as buying a car. At the end of the event, our students are better positioned to become independent and enter adulthood. The students also heard from a motivating speaker and had a chance to win hundreds of dollars in prizes including gift cards and a laptop. We would like to thank all the staff, volunteers, and local organizations for making this event possible. We also thank our students for participating and investing in their futures!
