I am looking forward to another incredible school year! My goal is to inspire and encourage students and staff to be the best they can be in and out of the classroom, and to partner with parents in supporting their children to accomplish their life goals. I began working for the Antelope Valley Union High School District as a teacher in September of 1999. My experience in the classroom was so rewarding, I began to have a desire to impact teachers, staff and systems in order to support our students and community. After working in administration at multiple school sites across the valley I was given the privilege of working as the Principal of Academies of the Antelope Valley in July of 2018. I grew up in Covina, California and received my B.S. from Azusa Pacific University. After moving to the Antelope Valley with my wife in 1999 to start a family, I received my teaching credential and Masters in Educational Administration from California State University of Bakersfield. As a father of 3 (2 in high school 1 in middle school), I believe in the future of our students and care passionately about the education we provide. I am always amazed by our students, colleagues and families and I feel grateful to work with such incredible people to help every child at AAV ignite their personal genius!
I started my educational career as a high school teacher in East Los Angeles in 2001 with the Los Angeles County Office of Education. I have served as a math and health teacher, teacher on special assignment and senior program specialist. Today, as your vice principal of Knight Preparatory Junior High School, I am very excited to create policies that promote a safe learning environment and ensure a school culture that encourages continuous improvement for all students and teachers.
Understanding that community is the essence of a successful school, I have built close working relationships with staff, students and families alike. As we begin the 2019-2020 school year, I look forward to building these same positive and trusting relationships with all stakeholders while continuing best practices that are reflective of the Antelope Valley Union High School District. Go Golden Hawks!
I received my Associates Degree in Letters, Arts, and Sciences from Antelope Valley College. In addition, I received both my Bachelor’s Degree in History and Teaching Credential from California State University of Bakersfield. This will be my sixth year teaching in the Antelope Valley Union High School District. I started as a substitute teacher for the high schools and quickly became a long-term substitute teacher for Palmdale and Lancaster High Schools. This will be my second year at AAV-Knight Prep. Last year was my first year working within the realm of middle school and I have learned a great deal about what students' needs are in the technological world we find ourselves in for this age group. To help prepare the students for high school and beyond, I have adapted my way of thinking to better assist and engage the students to reach the goals set for them. I am looking forward to the upcoming 2020/2021 school year.
This is my fifth year of full-time teaching at Knight Prep Academy. Prior to that I taught as a substitute teacher, a computer lab aide and a PE teacher. Teaching is my second career because I worked in banking and project management for over 20 years. I love teaching and have come back to my passion, which is Science! In 1992, I graduated from California State University, Northridge, with my bachelor’s degree in English, with an emphasis on Writing. In 2017, I obtained a Science Credential from California State University, Bakersfield. At Knight Prep, I teach 7th Grade Life Science, Gateway (GTT - Engineering), and AVID. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley, then moved and went to Palmdale High School, but now live in Leona Valley. Outside of teaching, I own and operate an organic you-pick cherry orchard, manage about 12 honey bee hives, and spend time with my family. We are a family of five, which consists of my husband and three college age children. I am so excited about all that Knight Prep has to offer its students and proud to be a part of this educational team! Knight Prep students are the best!
I was born and raised right here in the Antelope Valley. After graduating from Highland High School I attended AVC and received my AA, then went on to California State University of Bakersfield where I obtained a BA in Communication and a minor in Psychology. I then proceeded to follow what I was most passionate about, and that was coaching! So after coaching Varsity Cheerleading and Varsity Softball for Eastside Highschool for several years, I decided to become a Health, AVID and PE teacher. I continued to coach softball at multiple high schools in the district until I had two little ones of my own. I have been at KPREP for 5 years now along with the Virtual Academy. I recently completed my Masters in Education from California East Bay, and will continue to learn new and exciting ways to teach and engage my students!
Hello and welcome to our Full Inclusion service program for students with IEPs! My name is Anastasia Gohari and I am a Resource Specialist for Knight Prep and SOAR Prep Academies of the Antelope Valley. I have been teaching students with various special needs in a variety of settings for 20 years in the United States. I hold a Master of Science degree in Special Education, California Clear Education Specialist credentials in Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Disabilities, Educational Technology Certificate, Social Studies and World Languages (Russian) credentials and an added Autism Authorization. Most of my experience was gained during time with Los Angeles Unified School District in the role of Inclusion Facilitator and Resource Program Specialist, designing and implementing meaningful educational programs for students with mild, moderate and severe disabilities fully included in the general education setting with their typical peers. Inclusive education is a passion of mine and is one the most recognized best practices among current Special Education service models. I have also served as a Subject Matter expert with Western Governors University and a Program Supervisor for UCLA Teacher Induction program in the field of Special Education. Helping all children achieve their full potential is my ultimate goal and I am very happy to do it now for students of Academies of the Antelope Valley.
I am trained as a Marriage and Family Therapist with a Specialization in Clinical Art Therapy. I have over 10 years of professional experience working in the mental health field. In 2016, I started at the district in the Educationally Related Intensive Counseling Services (ERICS) program helping special education students with their social emotional needs. In Summer of 2019, I was hired as one of four Educational Social Worker's for the school district. I currently support Antelope Valley High School, Knight Preparatory Academy, Lancaster High School, Palmdale Preparatory Academy, SOAR Preparatory Academy, and the Virtual Academy. As an Educational Social Worker, I assist with student linkage to mental health services, mental health referral management, short-term individual therapy, and other support services. I collaborate with administration and other staff to identify and support students who could benefit from these services. I love working with school staff and parents supporting students to become the best versions of themselves. I look forward to another great school year!
I am so excited for the opportunity to join the Knight Prep team as the 8th grade Language Arts and Social Studies teacher. I bring to this position 34 years of experience in secondary education and an ability and willingness to adapt and to help teenagers adapt to an ever-changing world. After growing-up in rural Michigan, I received my B.S. in Education at Central Michigan University in 1986, after which I was recruited to teach American Literature and Drama, as well as coach basketball for Tehachapi High School. That was an amazing and rewarding experience, and a perfect transition from Michigan to California (as well as the birthplace of my son, in 1988.) In 1990, I attended a conference in the Antelope Valley and fell in love with the desert, so I applied to work at Sage Intermediate School (which later moved to Mesa Intermediate School) as a Language Arts teacher, and basketball and volleyball coach, as well as Peer Helping Advisor. I spent 16 successful years in this position, helping adolescents navigate their evolvement, hone their language skills, and become global citizens. In 2005, I was recruited to teach AP English Language and Composition for the newly built, Pete Knight High School, and was honored to take this position. Since that time, I have taught all grade levels, along with the AP class, and was fortunate to be co-coordinator of the Digital Design and Engineering Academy. Teaching to me has been a calling and a craft which has brought me more joy and accomplishment than I could have imagined. I look forward to bringing my love for teaching to Knight Prep, and in this tumultuous time, hopefully provide a safe, steady, and solid learning environment for my students.
Mr. Pratt graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1991. From there he went to The Master’s College at the age of 38 where he completed his Bachelor's degree. Mr. Pratt has been teaching Physical Education for the past 5 years. He loves his students and teaching them to develop lifetime habits and leadership qualities through the program "Leadership Development Through Physical Education (L.D.T.P.E)." In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife Rhonda, daughters Tia and Georgia, friends, playing golf, playing music and serving at his church. Some of Coach Pratt's favorite pastimes are being the Varsity Golf Coach at Quartz Hill High School and playing music with his dad.
It is with great pride that I serve as a counselor for the Academies of the Antelope Valley – Knight Prep & Virtual. As a Littlerock High School graduate, I am happy to work and serve in the community I have grown to love. I first began my journey as an educator in 2005 and began as a school counselor in the 2009-10 school year. As a mother and educator, I am passionate about shaping the future of our world by shaping the futures of our students. Through partnership and collaboration of parents, educators, and community we can help each student achieve. Through academic, college/career, and social/emotional supports, the AAV counseling team is ready to help students and their families attain this achievement. I look forward to working with you and building relationships to best serve all students
Hello, I am Mrs. White. Working at Knight Prep allows me to combine my two favorite things....Mathematics and Jr High aged students. I became a teacher in 2001 and I have spent the entirety of my teaching career in 7th and 8th grade math, with the exception of 1 year spent in 5th grade. I am originally from the state of Missouri and earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics from Southeast Missouri State University. I also earned my Master's Degree in Mathematics Grades 5-9 from Walden University in Minnesota. I moved to California with my husband and two sons in 2015 and started teaching at Knight Prep Academy in 2016. It is my daily mission to make sure my students don't hate math...you never know, they might even enjoy it.
